Best way to restart server...

Post by skiv71 »

Hi,

I've had a few instances where the z-way server appears to have crashed.

Not quite sure why its happening :-/

I'm looking at the quickest way to get the server back up.

Reboot the PI or /etc/init.d/Z-Way restart.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Neil

Does it happen regularly? Is there any crash reason in the log?

Surely service restart is faster than restarting whole Pi.

Note that /etc/init.d/Z-Way is renamed to /etc/init.d/z-way-server starting version 1.7.0 (it is already renamed in release candidates).

They're in /var/log. Either Z-Way.log or z-way-server.log, depending on software version.

Version 1.7.0-rc3 delivers a lot of stability improvements, so your issue may be already solved.

Jeez, the Z-Way.log is HUGE :-o

I'll have to delete it and see how it goes...

Is logging configurable?

Version 1.4.0 and later handles SIGHUP, so you may install logrotate to archive old logs.

Also you may set log level in config.xml (0 to 6 for log-level and 0 to 4 for http-log-level)

Latest install script configures logrotate to 10M * 4 files. So the file will not be so huge anymore. Just update and it will be configured automatically.
