New Windows user: UZB not recognized in Z-Way

Post by canuckcam »

Windows 7 x64, HP Zbook 15 G2, 16GB RAM.

Hi experts...! I just purchased the UZMUUZB dongle, and I'm having a very hard time trying to update the bootloader and firmware. I'm on my 4th hour of trying to a simple firmware upgrade!!

Initially could not get the Z-Way Server to talk to the dongle (COM3) but a re-install fixed it. Then I went into the /expert interface to initiate a firmware update (out of the box at v5.05). It seemed to take the new firmware, but after 30mins of "upgrading please wait" I figured there was something wrong and closed the browser window.

Reopened localhost:8083 and get the dreaded "An unexpected error occurred while initialising the Z-Wave controller data" error, same as on the first install. &^*()!!!!

Check log, update seems to be successful, but can't open serial port?!

Code: Select all

[2018-09-08 00:24:01.966] [I] [zway] Removing job: Write bytes to extended EEPROM

[2018-09-08 00:24:17.043] [C] [i/o] Serial port write error: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Unplugged the dongle, plugged back in. LED lights blue and turns off. Googling tells me that is the proper indicator (if it doesn't turn off = problem.) This is basic stuff that should be on the one-sheet manual in the box! Ok, so far so good.

Uninstall Z-Way, re-install. Yess! Bootloader is at 5.6, wants upgrade to 7278. Press upgrade bootloader. Stick reboots. Bootloader still at 5.6. Press upgrade firmware to 5.07.

Repeat:

Code: Select all

[2018-09-08 01:07:30.438] [I] [zway] Removing job: Write bytes to extended EEPROM

Uninstall Z-Way. Reinstall. Ok, now the basic UI (:8083/smarthome) sees the stick, but /expert gives me the "Communication or binding error" Uninstall. Reinstall. Yay!!!

Now I'm stuck on bootloader "2018-01-12 5.7 Update bootloader to 9d04" and no more firmware updates. But when I click update, it brings me back to the same screen. Repeat update bootloader. Log reads (as expected.)

Code: Select all

[2018-09-08 01:38:48.910] [I] [zway] Job 0x2b (Write bytes to extended EEPROM): Done (data unchanged, since is identical)

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or if there's a better way to do this that I'm missing? Thanks!!!

This stick may be the most advanced in features but without clear documentation and easy to use interface, the market is really to the highest level of technical experts. I'm about to return this stick and just buy the competitor's product - I've already spent a ridiculous amount of time troubleshooting this simple task!

I would suggest you to use Raspberry or other Linux with latest v2.3.8-rc6. We plan to update Windows version in some near future but this is not scheduled yet. Womdows version is very outdated. This is the reason why it does not show you next f/w updates on 9d04 bootloader
