Linear Dimmers and Primary Controllers

Post by markolbert »

Now that I've learned a bit about z-wave, the Razberry and including/excluding switches and outlets I'd like to branch out into dimmers.

I'm looking at getting a 3 way Linear dimmer. But I have two questions about them that I'm hoping someone here can answer:

1) The configuration I'm looking to replace has three switches (and no dimmer currently, but it's wired so it could have had one installed). Can I tie multiple "satellite" Linear switches into the circuit, or am I limited to just a master and a satellite (I realize I'm not using Linear's terminology here, apologies).

2) The Linear documentation about 3 way configurations talks about needing to use a special controller to tie the satellite switch to the master switch before associating them both to the z wave network. Am I understanding that correctly? If so, does the Razberry software handle tying the master & satellite together?
