Buying and creating first Z-Wave network

Hi all,

Im slowly getting into linking all my non HomeKit items to my home app on my iPhone.

I have a Raspberry Pi b+, i have installed home bridge and managed to get it running and linked my Todo thermostat to it. I also have a smart door lock - Danalock which uses both bluetooth and Z-wave.
I have read many many pages and my mind has slowly gone to mush with all the information (getting home bridge to function to weeks as it all new)

1) Please correct me if my think is wrong......... I looking at buying a RaZberry wave controller ( so i can interact with my lock) what is the licence thing all about? do i need to buy this as well - would be nearly £100 in total!?

2) I have read about running a z-wave server - is this software free? I would like to run this on a raspberry pi and then bridge that to the home bridge so the lock will show in the Home app. I think the process looks something like this...

3) Danalock ---> RaZbaerry board (running server software)-->bridge with software to --> home bridge (on Pi)---> iPhone.

4) There is some software on npmjs (packages for Pi) called Homebridge-zway

"This platform lets you bridge a Z-Way Server instance (for example, running on RaZBerry hardware or with a UZB1) to HomeKit using Homebridge.

Homebridge requires Z-Way Server version 2.0.1 or greater"

Have any of you guys used this, Where would i get this Z-Way server software..?


I know there are a few questions but some guidance would be great...

HI Guys,

I now have a zwave UZB1 stick (with no license at the moment) I followed the instructions to install on raspberry pi

wget -q -O - http://razberry.z-wave.me/install | sudo bash

noted the pw and username, rebooted the system with the stick installed (it flashed for and 2 seconds) logged directly into the pi and browser http://find.zwave.me,

It then showed me the following error;

An unexpected error occurred while initialising the Z-Wave controller data.
Please check
1.) if the controller is plugged in correctly,
2.) that in the app 'Z-Wave Network Access' the right port is entered
(UZB: '/dev/ttyACM0', Box: '/dev/ttyAMA0', UZB-Windows: '\\\\.\\COM3', Z-Stick: '/dev/ttyUSB0', embedded boxes: '/dev/ttyS0' or '/dev/ttyS1')
3.) the app is aktiv. If not you could activate it under Menu > Apps > Activ or add a new one under Menu > Apps > Local.
The Setting 'Expert View' needs to be active under Menu > My Settings.

All of the above were checked and seemed ok - is this where i need a license now for this stick? i did briefly try it on my mac with openhab but not with much success, its all pretty new to me. i managed to muddle through and get home bridge up and running on the pi B+.

Your help would be appreciated.

For Z-Way you need the license. Use /dev/ttyACM0 for the port name (or ttyACM1)

Hi PoltoS,

I managed to get the wave stick (logging in via myip.....) seen in the software - using the port /dev/ttyACM0 like you said.

Now when I try and add my danalock v2 125 (smart lock) the software does not detect it properly - I say this because when i run exclusion on the software (either selecting poly control as manufacturer or the auto setting) the UZB stick flashes and then ill put the lock into inclusion , it the beeps and the UZB stick stops - its clearly communicated something.
Then when i run inclusion the UZB stick does NOT flash ( ??? ) i the set the lock to inclusion, about 5 seconds later it beeps - like its acknowledged the communication but the software goes back to the list of steps 1) exclusion, 2) inclusion, 3)setup........

What is the license actually for? because i want to get the stick to recognise the lock then bridge it to homebridge.

I suppose it do not go into inclusion mode because of missing license. Check the log.

Hi PoltoS,

I had a brief look this morning, I could see some ack of exclusions and slave....
Is there some particular command I should be looking for (I'll have a look later today).

Im just wondering what you can and can't do with a license for the stick, what are the limitations.
I will aim to join my lock to the stick , but only use the zway as a bridge to other software rather than controlling the lock directly through z way.

Is there somewhere i should be looking in the log about a license?
It seems to show the UZB acknowledged the lock to exclude, but it won't include down at the bottom.

Ok thanks, how did you know i needed one from the log?

I have ordered one so fingers it turns up in the next day or 2.

What will the steps be to install the license? I found this page - https://www.z-wave.me/fileadmin/pdfs/Li ... forUZB.pdf

I could not see anywhere to add my license on the zway server software on the raspberry pi.

The manual is correct. Go to Expert UI, Controller Info page, then click on the License Upgrade button. Or use a direct link to /expert/#/uzb
