Vera and extra switch

Post by Gothrin »

This is my first post so please bear with me.

I just received the z-uno for the US. I have used 2 different sketches, the radio blink example and the 4 relay example from the website. In both scenarios when I include it on my zwave network using my Vera 3, it shows a switch for all channels but it also shows a switch for the device itself. Eq. 2 switches when there should be only 1 and 5 switches when there should be 4. I am using the "add generic z-wave device" on Vera to include the z-uno.

Any thoughts?

This is "by design" - according to the Z-Wave standard for multichannel devices there is a mapping of first channel to the "root device". This lead to one more device on the screen.

Please check http://z-uno.z-wave.me/Reference/Z-Wave/#Channels for more info. It explains that there is a mapping.

I see... the pictures that are posted of the z-uno included in vera on the controller page shows 10 switches. So does that mean that the picture is only actually showing 9 channels plus the root device because its an oversight or does it mean that you can only have 9 channels because the 10th will always be consumed by the root?

If you talk about the picture on http://z-uno.z-wave.me/z-wave/interoper ... ntrollers/, note that not all of them are switches. Some are sensors. Actually I don't remember what sketch was loaded in Z-Uno exactly on that screenshot, but you can see few duplicate devices.

I don't know Vera so much to tell you how exactly it should look like. In some controllers you can hide thise duplicate (mapped) devices from the UI.

This is true that some are sensors and some are switches but there are still only 9 non root ones. The device requires a name when you add it to Vera which in that picture in the link you provided would be "Z-Uno" The other 9 "devices" all start with _ in the name which is automatically named by Vera. So now the question is, can I have 10 "devices" plus the root "device" or is the pictured example correct that 9 devices are the max because one is consumed by the root?

I apologize if I am misunderstanding something.

You can have up to 10 channels. Some produce one device, some (like Sensor Binary) two devices in the UI. Plus some are mapped to the root. In total it might result in more than 10 devices in the UI.
