Security protocol of associations

Post by fez »

I am playing around with a Aeotec Trisensor (S2) and It looks like the association works only with S2 devices.
So from here the question: Are the association related (direct) commands follow the same rule/level as done with the gateway?
... I remeber that fibaro devices have some option to communicate un-secure with the associated devices
... so basically I would just like to get a confirmation if I understood it right.

This is very device specific. Unfortunately.

In fact the official Z-Wave rule is to probe the target for S2, S0 and only then fallback to insecure.

But lost devices just uses their most secure level or has two association groups for secure and unsecure. This is wrong and not interoperable, but much easier in implementation.

For example Z-Uno is doing probe first time and then remembers the detected security level. Not sure about Aeotec
